GIVING BACK

We Are One Community...

Simunye, Zulu for “We Are One”, is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization that provides high quality fun-filled educational experiences to school aged children, while also celebrating cultural diversity. The programs are geared toward achieving academic success, building character, and increasing self-esteem.
MISSION
Create opportunities for Charlottesville youth to reach their full potential using direct program services, parent engagement and peer teamwork strategies.


VISION
Charlottesville youth will excel in school, achieve their educational and vocational goals, and help their peers to reach their full potential too.

Programs

BRIDGING THE GAP
Bridging the Gap (BTG) – a strengths-based reading program focused on building confidence while making reading fun.  BTG offers Community Reading Events, Book Clubs, Cooperative Learning, Culturally Diverse Peer Learning, as well as Individualized Tutoring.
MENTORING
​MEN:touring
/WOMEN:touring – a mentoring program where trained Men and Women of Color serve as positive  role models who help youth to (1) set their own goals and plans and (2) exercise self-discipline and stay focused.  Mentors are trained and equipped to provide social and emotional support.
